The Company has defined as alcohol impairment a blood alcohol content of 40mg/100ml or more.
In order to enhance this policy the Company has implemented very strict rules and procedures exceeding the requirements of OCIMF.
- The possession, use, trafficking and sale of drugs and alcohol onboard are prohibited.
- No consumption of alcohol is allowed while the ship is in port.
- No issue of alcoholic beverages are to be made between 24 hours prior to arrival at any port until the ship has departed from the coastal waters or territorial limits.
- Distribution or consumption of alcohol is not allowed as sea during conditions of restricted visibility, heavy traffic, in any hazardous condition or at any time subject to Master’s discretion.
- Alcoholic beverages in crew quarters are prohibited.
- Watch keeping personnel or crewmember involved in the operation of equipment must abstain from alcohol minimum 4 hours prior taking over duties.
- Except for beer, no other hard drink is allowed onboard the ship.
Any form of drug, with the exception of prescribed drugs, is totally banned from Company managed vessels. Personnel on prescribed drugs must declare this fact to the Master upon joining the vessel, or upon prescription if prescribed during the period of service onboard. The Master if on prescribed drugs must declare this fact to the Company prior joining the vessel, or upon prescription if prescribed during the period of service onboard.
In addition, the Company maintains a system based on breathalyzers and random testing by urine sample to monitor the effectiveness of this Policy.
This policy is monitored onboard by the Master and office personnel visiting the ships.
